Justin had it figured out very early.” https://conta.cc/3K223Ad Eight years after the Halloween “costume” photo on the left, Justin’s goal of working for Choice One Engineering has come true—last week he was hired full-time as a civil engineer after graduating from Ohio State. Although he’s only been a full-time employee for a couple of weeks, Justin was featured in Choice Mindsets several times as a co-op. Indeed, he’s sweated it out thanks to Dan Perreira’s stingy management of air conditioning. And he made his acting debut in The Choice One Team video last summer as “Excited Property Owner” and “Field Surveyor with Machete #2.” A double billing! Justin, the sky’s the limit here at Choice One for you—you’ll probably be controlling the A/C and winning an Oscar before too long. Just remember the three “Ds” of new Choice One employees: Develop great projects, Dress in green always, and, of course, Doughnuts for all after your first paycheck.

Nora Schwartz, from the University of Dayton, is back in our Sidney office today for her second summer engineering co-op. She's excited to start and reconnect with everyone! Welcome back, Nora – we're thrilled to have you here again!

Choice One Engineering is excited to have assisted the Village of Jamestown, City of Loveland (OH), Miami Township (Montgomery County), and the Village of Yellow Springs in receiving a collective $6,900,000 in Safety Funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation. Congrats to these and all of these communities working to make their transportation networks safer!

Happy Mother's Day!

Michael Goettemoeller recently took his 10-year Choice One Anniversary trip to Cancun, Mexico! Congratulations, Michael! "Megan and I took a trip to Cancun, Mexico to celebrate my 10-year anniversary with Choice One. We spent the week at the Excellence Riviera Cancun Resort. A normal day consisted of splitting time between the beach and the pool, enjoying the sunshine and strong ocean breeze (as you can see), reading, and sipping on a few adult beverages. The food was incredible, and we most enjoyed relaxing without any distractions."

What an eventful week! We're thrilled that this week we have four co-op members joining the team. Let's welcome Caleb, AJ, Ellen, and Nick! Caleb Sutherin is returning for his second engineering co-op term at our Sidney office. He's a student at The University of Toledo, and expresses his excitement, saying, "The aspect that most excites me about co-oping with Choice One again is being able to join a work environment that I know is comfortable to me. Also being able to help on projects that I can look at after and get that sense of accomplishment." Aaron Heuker began his co-op journey in our Loveland office back in January and now transitions to our Sidney office for his second term. AJ is our 2023 Tom Coverstone Scholarship recipient and is a student at the University of Cincinnati. Ellen Naumann is an inside surveyor co-op out of our Sidney office. She is a student at the University of Dayton and expresses her excitement: "I am very excited about the community at Choice One. I look forward to being part of a larger firm and seeing all of the various kinds of projects they work on." Nick Schmidt began his co-op journey in our Sidney office back in January and now transitions to our Loveland office for his second term. Nick is an engineering co-op and student at the University of Cincinnati.

Take a look at these awesome progress photos of the monumental Water Street Reconstruction project in the City of Wapakoneta. This $4.9 million project includes the installation of a 72” storm sewer main, 30” sanitary sewer main, 12” water main, and 2,600’ of full street reconstruction through the heart of Wapakoneta. Choice One provided a storm sewer study, topographic survey, plan design, grant funding assistance, bidding, and construction layout staking. We look forward to watching the progress of this exciting project throughout the summer! 🚧

Welcome back, Justin Puthoff! Today Justin returns to the Sidney office as a project engineer. He's no stranger here, having previously completed co-op terms at Choice One in 2021 and 2023, with some seasonal part-time work in between. Justin graduated from The Ohio State University over the weekend. It's a rare sight not to see these two in green! Congratulations, Justin, and welcome back!

Choice Mindsets: Taken By Storm Link Thobe: “Daddy, I want to see the water drain!” https://conta.cc/3WpO8ep Link is the 2-year-old son of one of Choice One’s stormwater engineer Tyler Thobe and wife Brittany. While out near his home with his parents (who were watching for traffic), Link couldn’t help but check out the catch basin structure along the street. And we agree--stormwater is interesting, Link! It’s hard not to let our engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture passions rub off on our families and friends. Despite the fact that his kids are all adults now, designer Brian Barhorst is still probably dragging his family past Choice One roadway projects all over Ohio. Jeff Puthoff’s “dress like dad for Halloween” sons are both studying to be engineers like dad. And although he hasn’t been hired as a surveyor yet, surveyor Eric Kuck’s son Owen, now 8 years old, probably fits into his dad’s Choice One shirt a little better now than he did at age 2. We hope you inspire more kids get into stormwater management, Link. Who doesn’t like to splash in puddles, run in the rain, review times of concentration, and calculate composite runoff coefficients? Keep checking out those catch basins, too—we appreciate your enthusiasm toward flow rates and invert elevations!
